Selection of a compressed air dryer is dependent upon two factors first one is the capital investment or initial cost of the equipment and second is the operating cost however the outlet dew point or dryness requirement is also a controlling factor .

Initial Cost wise the heatless air dryer is the cheapest equipment followed by refrigerated air dryer followed by the heater type dryers And then heat of compression type dryers. The operating cost of Heatless dryer is the highest in the form of wastage of compressed air to the tune of 10 to 15% followed by heater type which consumes a substantial amount of power the minimum operating cost is that of a refrigerant type dryer and the most energy efficient and almost Nil or no operating cost is the heat of compression type air dryer .
